Chris Chameleon nominated for 2010 SAMA – Best Male Solo Artist – for third year in a row
Innovative, unpredictable and endlessly creative, Chris Chameleon has become known in South Africa and abroad as a musical phenomenon. With has a style all his own, irresistible stage personality and a reputation for mesmerizing audiences with his four-octave voice and vocal acrobatics, his exceptional talent has won him rave reviews and numerous awards over the past four years.
2010 has thus far been a busy year for the prolific Chameleon. In February he recorded a new BOO! album in Amsterdam, the first since 2003, to be released later in the year. The recording saw him and former BOO! bandmate Ampie Omo joining creative forces once again, and Chameleon, Omo and Riaan van Rensburg (on drums) recently blew Ramfest festivalgoers away with what was BOO!’s first on-stage performance in five years.
On March 4 Chris was nominated for two 2010 SAMA Awards – the first in the category Best Male Solo Artist, while his most recent Afrikaans album, Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou was also nominated for a 2010 SAMA Award in the Best Adult Contemporary Album: Afrikaans category. This is the third consecutive year in which Chris has been nominated in the prestigious Best Male Solo Artist category – no mean feat considering the caliber of artists competing for this coveted award annually.
In addition, Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou’s producer, Theo Crous, was nominated for a 2010 SAMA in the Best Producer category.
Further news is that Chris has recently started filming on the set of M-Net TV programme Binnelanders, where he is portraying the role of doctor-turned-lawyer Thomas Badenhorst. The episodes featuring Chris will be broadcast from 5 April, with his character returning to the screen later in the year.
In August, Chris Chameleon and his BOO! band mates will be touring the much-anticipated album in South Africa as well as Europe, and in October and November Chris will be back on the theatre stages of Belgium and The Netherlands.
