Singer songwriter Luna has been noted as one of South African Music's best-kept secrets. Unique, unequalled, absolutely original. Blows the mind.
Luna has the powerful combination of a remarkably strong yet soothing voice and together with her finely tuned compositional skills, she is about to celebrate her music career with the launch of her first full length album "Missing Pieces." This much anticipated album was recorded and mixed at Sunset Recording Studios, Stellenbosch and was produced by Schalk Joubert. Also involved in this production as well as being the manager of Luna's career is Francious Kruger (Springbok Nude Girls.) Luna met Francious in 2003 and her 7 track debut recording "Luna" was the first result of their collaborative commitment to the success of her music.
"Missing Pieces" is a selection of upbeat pop songs ("Somewhere Beautiful", "Sticky Situation" )and dark introspective ballads ("Roller Coaster", "Fire Tonight") Luna's distinctive sound of folk flavoured adult contemporary pop also weaves through the album and each song is carefully soul stamped. Thematically the album, in exploring the search for romantic love and at the same time the fear of finding and losing it, is striving to paint a realistic portrait of relationships in modern society.
The album cover features Luna standing in front of an open door holding hands with an invisible man. The open door represents the beginning of a promising relationship, while the cut out man is a reminder of the missing pieces in the ideals that we are brought up to believe in. This theme is explored throughout the album. The picture inside the album cover tells the story of a woman's feelings of emotional neglect, disillusionment and her journey of self-discovery.
Luna's insight into the theme of her album also stems from her having studied Social Work. She has a Masters Degree in the use of music in group therapy for chemical dependents. She is by nature interested in and aware of the wellbeing of people around her and her unusual perceptiveness contributes to her compelling song-writing.
With the quality and depth of the music and the international standard of production, "Missing Pieces" has the potential to become a classic in the SA female songwriter genre.
